Akjan
Flowerless Sago Palm Blooms 1972

This violin solo piece is adapted from a Soprano song. The story behind the song is that a PLA medical team successfully used traditional Chinese acupuncture to help deaf-mute patients regain their listening ability. Those patients' ability to speak is analogized to a thousand-year-old flowerless sago palm finally blooming. The music depicts the excitement and joy when they first hear sound.

Shine over Tashkurgan
1976

This piece is comprised of two parts, "Carefree Singing" and "Wild Dance," showing the Tajiks dressing in radiantly colorful holiday costumes, drinking, dancing, and singing about their happy tomorrow. 


Zhao Wei
Joy of Spring Ploughing
1998

This piece is in the style of Henan Opera. It describes the pleasure of farmers carrying fertilizer to the spring fields. It was composed by Zhao Wei for her then 14-year-old student Chen Xi. Chen Xi performed this piece in the China Music Performance Competition and won honorable mention.  

Li Zili
Fishermen’s song for Harvest
1973

This composition is based on fishermen songs from the Chaoshan area, with waves of the South China Sea as background. It describes the fishermen's joyful return with a bumper harvest from the sea.
